Notably, the Pollution Control Board has enforced a mandate for industries with a workforce exceeding 200 employees to install dedicated STPs. This article delves into the objectives of STPs and the advantages they bring to industrial operations.<\/p>\n

Sewage treatment primarily aims to generate treated effluent that meets safety standards for release into the environment, thus mitigating potential harm. This comprehensive process focuses on eliminating contaminants from sewage water. Moreover, various sewage treatment techniques yield sewage sludge, which can undergo additional treatment for reuse or safe disposal. In specific instances, the refined sewage sludge is referred to as “biosolids” and finds applications as a valuable fertilizer.<\/p>\n

Industries are required to adhere to the latest directive issued by the Pollution Control Board, which necessitates the installation of standalone Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) for those having a workforce exceeding 200 employees, irrespective of their discharge location. Even industrial units participating in Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETP) or shared discharge facilities must furnish a letter indicating their willingness to integrate treated sewage into the effluent discharge system. The implementation of compulsory Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) for industrial establishments underscores the increasing significance of conscientious wastewater management. Through the treatment of sewage water and its secure disposal or potential reuse, industries play a crucial role in safeguarding the environment and supporting water conservation initiatives.
